How Does AdSense Work?

Adsense is a scheme by Google where you can put advertising on your site and earn money through those that click on those ads and proceed with buying something, through a commission based payment system.

Unfortunately, some webmasters modify sites to attract searchers from Google and other search engines to their AdSense site then from the clicks, make money. This a form of black hat adsense. Often, "zombie" sites have nothing but a large amount of unified, mechanized content like a directory with content from Open Directory Project or scraper sites that relies on RSS feeds for content.

In worst cases, reports of Trojan horses – a computer virus is engineered to produce fake Google advertisements are formatted to look like real ones.

The Trojan downloads itself onto an unsuspecting computer through a webpage and then replaces the original ads with its own set of malevolent ads.

Here’s a detailed process on how Adsense Work:

The webmaster puts in the AdSense JavaScript code into a webpage.
Everytime this page is visited, the JavaScript code generates an IFrame set to the page's weblink.
Google's servers use cache to identify a set of keywords. Once these keywords have been cached, ads are served for those keywords on the AdWords bidding system.
The advertiser chooses the page/s on which to show advertisements, pays based on cost per mille (CPM), or the price advertisers choose to pay for every thousand advertisements displayed for site-targeted advertisements specifically.
There was also a referral program for Adsense, but was retired in August 2008. As for referrals, Google includes money to the advertiser's account when visitors either download the relevant software or subscribe to the related service.
Search advertisements are added to the list results every after the visitor makes a search.

Because of some concerns about “click fraud”, Google AdSense has been disapproved of by some SEO web development firms. And sometimes, these publishers that have been blocked by Google protest that there wasn’t enough proof for this.

How Does Adsense Work / Keep it legal

So to avoud click fraud, AdSense publishers can now choose from click-tracking programs. This will help show very detailed information about the visitors who clicked on the AdSense advertisements. This will also help publishers determine whether or not they have been a victim of click fraud.

Google will pay all earned revenue greater than US$10 when an AdSense account is closed. But the payment terms for webmasters have also been criticized. Google does not pay until an account reaches US$100. However many small content providers require a long time—years in many cases—to build up this much AdSense revenue.
