For example during a benefit for breast cancer research, the people who run the benefit and the cancer victims are the stakeholders while the people who attend the benefit are the audience.

PR can be used by the President to strengthen his stance in Congress about a certain issue. A priest or pastor can also use public relations to drive up the numbers of his flock. Banks and financial institutions also utilize PR to seem less cold and more approachable to depositors and attract borrowers. PR can be used within a company, between top and middle management to bridge the gap between executives and workers.
Public Relations covers a wide area that almost nothing is done without PR. From authors who are about to come out with books to charities and institutions needing donations for their cause. Even actors hire PR to beef up their credibility and exposure in Show Business.

Now that we know what and why we use public relations, how do we actually reach the public? There are common tools which PR men use in order to reach their audience. One of which is media.
Media is your newspaper and other print publications, TV, radio and internet. All these forms of media are very powerful and reach a lot of people. PR people for charity events secure news coverage in order to get people to go to the event and get attention for the charity. Newsletters are sent to specific persons with the purpose of establishing contact with a targeted audience. Newsletters strive to provide useful or meaningful content to its audience thereby fostering trust or patronage. Newsletters can be in its traditional printed form or electronic format.
Speaking engagements are for promoting individuals or organizations during conventions or meets. It is an opportunity for individuals or organizations to demonstrate their expertise to potential audiences or markets. Additionally, speakers may also be hired in order to raise credibility of a company or individual by showcasing their good points.
